Homeopathy is the treatment therapy of choice for most chronic conditions seen at Natural Health Connections, Inc. Most naturopathic therapies focus on changing the physical body making it a more healthy and viable vessel for the prevention of disease or symptom relief at the least. Homeopathy works at a much deeper level to stimulate the body's own innate ability to heal itself. The underlying cause of a person's disease ultimately lies in his/her unique susceptibility to both acute and chronic stressors. Homeopathic treatment commonly leads to cured cases of otherwise incurable diseases.
Homeopathy is an extremely effective system of medicine, based on nature's law of similars. The law of similars, like all laws of nature i.e.; the law of attraction (gravity) is a truth and unchangeable across time. Hippocrates, who wrote that disease could be cured by what he called the "similiars", first referenced this law. This meant using a substance to treat a disease that could produce the same symptoms as the disease itself. Hippocrates observed the similars in nature and natural development, but did not organize it into a system of medicine.
Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a translator of medical text and a scientist from Germany, developed nature's law of similars into a system of treating disease called Homeopathy. Hahnemann was a student of medicine and observed his own symptoms after taking quinine. He realized that the symptoms he developed were very similar to the symptoms of malaria. He was familiar with the notion of similars through his translations, and decided to conduct an experiment using it in the next case of malaria he saw. Amazingly, the patient was rapidly cured when given quinine. Hahnemann recorded the symptoms of more and more substances, and without fail, cured the diseases those symptoms represented.
It is because homeopathy is based on a law of nature that it is such a successful modality. No matter what the disease "label" (diagnosis) the patient presents with, the homeopathic treatment method is the same, and has been since it was first used. Just as the law of gravity can never be disputed, neither can the law of similars.
The treatment involves giving a very dilute dose of one medicine (homeopathic remedy) that perfectly matches the symptoms of the patient. There are over 3000 remedies altogether, and the well-trained practitioner must choose the most indicated one for the patient. The homeopathic remedy is chosen based on the patient's unique and most characteristic symptoms. When the remedy is taken it stimulates the patient's own ability to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Homeopathic medicines are quite safe. They are known to be non-allergenic, non-toxic, and free of side effects. They are prepared from herbal, mineral, and animal substances by homeopathic pharmacies, under strict guidelines established by the FDA. Remedies are often available over the counter, but to insure the proper remedy selection for you, a trained practitioner should always be consulted first.
The patient of homeopathy will sit for a homeopathic interview, which may last from 1 1/2 to 3 hours. The practitioner's goal is to elicit as much information as possible (symptoms) about the person's physical, mental, and emotional state, as well as their primary health concern(s). The homeopath delves into the intricacies of a person's nature, and people often report that they enjoy the process and the individualized care they are given. Following the interview a licensed Naturopathic Physician will then perform indicated physical examinations and may want to run some tests to secure a medical diagnosis. The practitioner then chooses a remedy after a methodical analysis of the case. It is likely that a person will move through a series of indicated remedies before they are completely well, all the time moving in the direction of cure. For some with complex cases and a long history of allopathic drug therapies, it may take years, for others like young children with a pure health history, recovery will occur much more quickly.
